TN Chief Electoral Officer appreciates Coimbatore’s arrangements

Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo, following a review of Coimbatore district administration's readiness for the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2024, urged the public to make extensive use of Election Commission of India's apps, specifically C Vigil and E-SMS, to curb violations of the poll code.

Speaking to the media, he commended the district administration for its outstanding arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful elections. When asked about the issue of electoral bonds, Sahoo stated that it falls under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission of India and the Supreme Court.

Regarding the permissible expenditure limit for Lok Sabha polls, he confirmed that it remains at ₹70 lakh. In addressing concerns about cash and token distribution by political parties to influence voters, Sahoo mentioned that banks have been directed to monitor "suspicious withdrawals." He also responded to questions regarding cash disbursement via digital payment wallets and other types of transactions.
