Tamil Nadu water resource minister Duraimurugan said that officials representing the state government would stage a walkout if the Mekedatu dam proposal was discussed during a meeting with Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA).
Duraimurugan, who is in New Delhi on his two-day trip, told the newspersons that he would be requesting the union minister not to allow deliberation on the dam plan. “If the topic of Mekedatu dam proposal was taken up in the government, the Tamil Nadu government would stage a walkout,” he added.
The 16th meeting of CWMA is scheduled on Friday in New Delhi to discuss several issues including the proposed Mekedatu dam. The Karnataka government has been demanding the CWMA to discuss the dam proposal during the meeting and the CWMA has accepted its demand.
Opposing the move, the Tamil Nadu government has approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to restrain CWMA from passing any order regarding the proposal. The Apex court would take up the petition on Wednesday.
