A training and demonstration session on renewable energy technologies was organized by the ICAR-Bioconversion Technology Centre at Sri Parasakthi College for Women, Courtallam, on March 19. Conducted under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) scheme of ICAR, the event aimed to educate farmers in Tenkasi district on sustainable energy solutions for agricultural and household applications.
The program began with a welcome address by Dr. G. Saravanapriya, Research Engineer & Head of the Bioconversion Technology Centre. College Principal Dr. P. Nageswari presided over the function, emphasizing the significance of renewable energy in addressing current energy challenges. She encouraged farmers to seek assistance from the centre for installing renewable energy gadgets in their
localities. Experts, including Dr. G. Saravanapriya, Dr. R. Shreelavaniya, Thiru. N. Kumaresan, and Thiru. M. Siva Chandran, conducted training sessions on the application of renewable energy in agriculture. Demonstrations featured various biogas plant models, including KVIC, Deenabhandu, and night-soil-based plants, along with high-rate reactors. Solar energy devices such as solar cookers, lanterns, streetlights, dryers, distillation units, and power plants were also showcased.
Farmers were given insights into biogas slurry enrichment, composting techniques, and vermicomposting for crop cultivation. As part of the initiative, solar lanterns were distributed to the participants by Dr. Nageswari.
The training concluded with positive feedback from the 62 participating farmers, who expressed keen interest in adopting these technologies.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. R. Shreelavaniya.
