The Telangana government has moved the Apex court seeking remedy for its grievance on inordinate delays in clearance of important bills passed by the state Legislature by the Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
The state in its petition said that the Telangana Government has been constrained to move before the court under Article 32 of the Indian constitution as the Governor has been refusing to act on several bills that were passed by both the Houses of the State assembly.
Making the Governor as the respondent, the state said that as many as seven bills were pending before the Governor for her approval since September 14, 2022, three more bills were sent to her table last month. The bills include Common Recruitment Board Bill, Motor Vehicle Tax Bill, Private Universities Bill, Agriculture University Amendment Bill, a Bill to upgrade a forest college and research institute in Mulugu to a forest university and the Azamabad Industrial Area Bill among others. The state has also made the union law ministry and secretary to the Governor as respondents in the case.
This is the second time that the state has knocked the doors of the Court against the Governor. Last month, the state moved the High Court seeking its intervention to direct the Governor to approve the state budget, and the state had directed them to sort out the issue amicably.
