Opposition parties including Congress and DMK are protesting that the Union government is taking away state rights one by one. A similar incident of taking away of rights happened at the 50th GST in Delhi during the consultation meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that, criminal cases against businessmen which are registered and investigated under state government laws will hereafter be taken up and investigated under the Money Laundering Act by the Enforcement Directorate which comes under the Union Government.
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thannarasu opposed this in the meeting and said, "This is not acceptable; There is a danger that Tamilnadu small businessmen will be harassed and suffer,'' he condemned and refused to agree.
The Government of Tamil Nadu opposes the inclusion of Goods and Services website under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 as it is against the interests of traders and against the basic objective of decriminalizing offenses under the Goods and Services Tax Act, as it will harm traders, especially small traders across the country, Thangam Thanarasu told.
When Prime Minister Modi was earlier the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the Union Government brought GST.
At that time, he strongly protested and shouted that "I will never allow GST". Now, is this how to take away state rights? How is this fair? This is strongly condemnable.
