Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women in association with Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice Administration, Tamil Nadu Open University organised a one-day state level workshop on Protection, Prosecution and Rehabilitation on Crime Against Women and Cyber Security at Tamil Nadu Open University on August 9. AS Kumari, Tamil Nadu Commissioner for Women, Shankar Jiwal, Director General of Police, S Arumugam, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Open University, E Khalieraaj, Director, National Cyber Security Research Council, New Delhi were present in the event. Speaking at the event, DGP Shankar Jiwal said, “Volunteers can join the cyber crime department of the Tamil Nadu police force and work with cyber crime experts.
Many people are unaware of this scheme, they should utilise this opportunity. There was a survey done on behalf of the police department, many people have reported that harassment of women is evident in public areas, but it is not reported. People should understand the system and how the cases should be reported.”
Director of the Director, National Cyber Security Research Council, Khalieraaj, highlighted the need for a unified approach to combating cybercrime. He referenced Union Minister Amit Shah's statement, emphasising the importance of implementing a universal cybercrime law that would address cyber issues on a global scale.
Khalieraaj stressed the necessity of collective action to effectively control cybercrime and urged the public to report international phishing calls by contacting the helpline number 1930.
