In view of World Sight Day (WSD), the Optometric Association of Tamil Nanbargal (OATN) organized a walkathon at Race Course in the city on Sunday. About 400 optometrists and optometry students from ten colleges in the zone participated in the 2.4-kilometer-long walkathon with placards.
The event was aimed at educating the public about the significance of maintaining healthy eyes, safeguarding vision against accidental injuries and its potential impact on overall well-being. The walkathon also highlighted the importance of employers prioritizing the eye health of their workforce to enhance productivity.
The event kick-started by G Chandeesh, deputy commissioner of police (law and order) Coimbatore north and guest of honour Madhusudan, medical director at Lotus eye hospital. Welcome address was delivered by Preetha Ramprasat, president of (OATN) and the event was overseen by TP Arul, organizing chairman of the event and R Kumaran, chief advisor and founding general secretary. D Samuel Vijay, vice-president of the association delivered the vote of thanks.
Also, the association will organize eye health screening camps for children and the elderly across the state in October.
