Union Minister Jaishankar has traveled to Sri Lanka and Maldives on a 4 days visit. He reached Sri Lanka yesterday after completing his trip to Maldives. He was given a rousing welcome there. Later Minister Jaishankar met Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabri and others.

Regarding this meeting, Union Minister Jaishankar said that there was a satisfactory meeting with External Affairs Minister Ali Sabri and other ministers in Colombo. India-Sri Lanka cooperation in infrastructure, communications, energy, industry and health were discussed during the meeting, he said.

Following this, Minister Jaishankaris also scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President RanilWickremesinghe. After this, Minister Jaishankar is going to meet the leaders of political parties of Eelam Tamils in Colombo. Minister Jaishankar's visit is seen as very important as Sri Lanka is facing severe economic crisis.

The Tamil Nadu political party leaders had demanded that the issue of Tamil Nadu fishermen should be taken as a matter of equal importance and that both sides should discuss the matter and try to find a permanent solution. It is expected that Minister Jaishankar will not forget to talk about this and will take steps to ensure the safety of Tamil Nadu fishermen.
