Women protection panels must in industries

AS Kumari, chairperson of the state women's commission, advised officials to constitute women protection committees in the industrial units for their safety.


A review meeting was held yesterday at the Erode District Collector's Office on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare and Women's Rights with departmental officials on women's rights, security and livelihood development.  

The meeting was chaired by AS Kumari in the presence of Erode District Collector Krishnanunni. In her speech, she said the Chief Minister  has been implementing various schemes for the benefit of women.  Free bus travel for women is an indirect savings for them. 

 By providing various credit facilities to women's self-help groups and providing them with various skills training, women have been able to earn by doing various occupations.  

She said of the various petitions that come to us many related to child marriage and dowry problems which can be solved if they are monitored by groups including panchayat leaders in rural areas. Parent-teacher meeting should be held through the school’s education department to talk about students interests, not just their  marks.Various awareness programmes should be conducted on behalf of the police department to instill confidence in women.   

Schools should keep a complaint box and review complaints once a week. In addition, the police department should provide awareness to students in schools at least 2 hours a week.  

Awareness through short films can reach students easily.  Police should continue to monitor students at the bus stop until they board the bus.  

Regarding helpline number 181 for women, advertising banners should be placed in public places.  Also, advertisements should be made for the helpline number 1098 for children. 

Appropriate measures should be taken to monitor and provide education to children living in hilly areas to avoid dropouts in schools. She then handed over petitions related to the school education department, police department, higher education department, national child labor eradication, women's programme, integrated child protection unit,

 general medicine department  to officials and directed the departmental authorities to take prompt action on those petitions. State Women's Commission member Geetha Nadarajan, District Revenue Officer Santoshini Chandra, Gobi RDO Palani Devi, and many officials attended the meeting.
