Chief election officer Satyabrata Sahoo said that the field works to remove duplicate entries in the electoral roll would commence in May across the state.
Electoral roll revision would be carried out by the election department once a year. During which, the names of the deceased and duplicate entries would be removed along with other name or address corrections. However, duplication of entries continues to exist. The election commission has been taking various measures to fix the issue. Speaking to reporters, Sahoo said, “With the support of technology, we have been taking measures to remove duplication of names and it would be done using photo identification methods. Meanwhile, poll officers would also conduct simultaneous field inspections to check their present address.”
Since many teachers were roped in to carry out the field inspections, the works would commence after the public examination works are completed, he said, adding that photographs of voters would be compared and verified not just within the constituency but also across the state.
As per our estimation, there are over six lakh duplicate entries in the electoral roll, he added.
