The Department of Special Education, a Rehabilitation Council of India-certified Centre of Excellence at Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, commenced its fourth three-day Continuous Rehabilitation Education programme on “Integrated Therapeutic Approaches for Children with Disabilities – Pathways to Inclusion” on Thursday.

The programme, scheduled from February 13 to 15, has brought together around 50 special education teachers, faculty members and researchers to strengthen the technical competencies and professional knowledge of in-service rehabilitation practitioners.
Vice-Chancellor V. Bharathi Harishankar, inaugurating the programme, underscored the importance of inclusion and the need to bridge theoretical understanding with practical classroom application. R. Shanthi, Head (in-charge) of the Department of Special Education, delivered the welcome address.

The CRE programme aims to upgrade the knowledge and skills of registered rehabilitation professionals to ensure quality services for persons with disabilities. It also serves as a mandatory periodic training to update professionals on emerging trends, research and therapeutic techniques, while enabling them to earn credits required for renewal of their registration.
