Timothy Ravinder, the bishop of Coimbatore Diocese of the Church of South India (CSI) said that they were planning to plant 1000 saplings at its schools, Colleges and Institution in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Tirupur in view of the golden jubilee celebration of United Nations Environment Programme.
On the occasion of the golden jubilee celebration of the United Nations Environment Programme, CSI has started to work on increasing the green cover of the world.
As a part of it, they have decided to plant 1000 saplings at its schools, Colleges and Institution in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Tirupur districts.
The inaugural function of the event took place at CSI matriculation higher secondary school at Race Course in Coimbatore and the bishop planted saplings.
Speaking at the event, he said, “In Coimbatore zone, we would be planting saplings with the help of students.
We have been planting saplings that can bore fruits and give shadow at our schools, Colleges, Institution and churches located in three districts.
The project is aimed at increasing green cover across the globe and our aim to reduce carbon emission and to bestow a cleaner world to the next generation.”
