10 wild elephants camp inside residential areas near Marudhamalai

Around 10 wild elephants have been sighted in the Marudhamalai and Kempanur areas of Coimbatore district. Residents have reported that this herd, which recently migrated from the Thadagam forest to the Marudhamalai forest, has been damaging agricultural crops. The locals are concerned about potential human-animal conflicts, as these elephants have been known to invade residential areas, break into homes, and search for food items, including rice pudding. Early this morning, at 5 AM, the herd entered the residential area at the foothills of Marudhamalai, specifically in the IOP Colony. Upon being alerted, the forest department responded promptly, driving the elephants back into the Marudhamalai forest area. Bystanders captured videos of the elephants strolling into the residential area, and these clips are now circulating on social media.
