15 new BS-6 buses flagged off for Salem rural routes by K.N Nehru

In a significant move to enhance public transport services, Minister for Municipal Administration Mr. K.N. Nehru flagged off 15 new BS-6 buses for suburban routes under the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) Salem division at the New Bus Stand in Salem on Monday. 

The new bus services are part of the state government's ongoing efforts to upgrade public transport infrastructure by replacing old buses with new, eco-friendly BS-6 models since the current Tamil Nadu Chief Minister assumed office. This initiative aims to provide enhanced and more reliable transport services for the general public. 

The newly launched buses include two services from Mettur to Chennai, two from Salem to Trichy, one from Salem to Coimbatore, and eight from Salem to Bengaluru. 
These 15 buses were introduced at a total cost of Rs.5.75 crore.
Since the Chief Minister took office, a total of 134 new buses have been introduced in the Salem division, benefiting Salem district with 72 new buses, Namakkal district with 21 buses, Dharmapuri with 10, Krishnagiri with 27, and Tirupathur with four, representing an investment of Rs. 51.36 crore, daid TNSTC officials. Additionally, air-conditioned restrooms for workers, constructed at a cost of Rs. 8.28 lakh, were inaugurated at TNSTC’s Tharamangalam and Erumapalayam depots.
The event was attended by Salem District Collector Dr. R. Brindha Devi, Salem North MLA Mr. R. Rajendran, Salem West MLA Mr. R. Arul, Mettur MLA Mr. S. Sadasivam, other senior government officials, union representatives, and members of the public.
