The 162nd Annual Prize Day of Stanes Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, was celebrated today. While Dr.Ganapathi P.Rajkumar, Member of Parliament, Coimbatore and an alumni of the school, was the Chief Guest, Adv.N.Sundaravadivel, District – Rotary Governor No.321, International Rotary, was the Guest- of-Honour on the occasion. Philip R.J.Fowler, Esq. Correspondent, Stanes Schools and S.Selene Vinodhini, Principal, Stanes AIHSS, were also present on the occasion.
In his speech, Dr. Ganapathi Rajkumar said that it was a very memorable and honourable day for him as an Alma matter of the great institution. He said that the school gave them the courage and education to face and overcome challenges successfully. He added that the school developed his English speaking skills, which is now helping him in parliamentary debates.
He further added that the learnings from the teachers of the school has stood him in good stead and have been instrumental in his achievements. Dr.Ganapathi Rajkumar wished the students all the very best for their future.
Dr.Ganapathi Rajkumar was honoured with the ‘Excelsa Sequar Award’ on the occasion.
Dr.Ganapathi Rajkumar awarded prizes to academic toppers of the school during the event.
Philip Fowler during his address reminisced about the phenomenal legacy of Sir Robert Stanes, the visionary founder of the school.
He highlighted that apart from his focus on education, Sir Robert Stanes had also been instrumental in putting Coimbatore on the industry map of India by initiatives such as starting the first textile mill in the city.
Dr.Sundaravadivel in his address mentioned that the seed which Sir Robert Stanes had sown has grown into a great institution. He lauded the school and stated that like Dr.Ganapathi Rajkumar, it has a legacy of producing many notable personalities.
Another highlight of the event was the variety of cultural programs performed by students of the school including, welcome dance, ‘Neeraanava Nilamanava’- invocation dance , ‘Vidiyum Oru Naal’ and ‘Aladdin’- a musical.
