Salem Divisional Manager Gautham Srinivasan said that 2 platforms in Erode railway station will soon be extended to accommodate trains fully.
He declared open
a sales outlet of Chentex at the station on Saturday and told reporters ''in the last budget, an announcement was made to open shops in railway stations to promote sales of local products and artisans.
Accordingly, a shop was opened in Chennai Railway Station last month. Now, in Salem division, the Chentex shop is opened on pilot project basis.
After seeing its success for one month, the shop will be given to others on rotation basis to encourage local products' sales and producers. As there is no space, new platform could not be created in Erode station. But, the length of 2 platforms will soon be extended. The railway bridge at Chennimalai Road, Erode is narrow.
So, railways and highways officials inspected it recently. Now, highways department should alone take action to reconstruct it. In Erode railway station, a cloak room for passengers will soon be opened.
There is no proposal to lay separate track for goods trains transport in Erode railway station. Erode -Coimbatore passenger train service was commenced from April 1. Other passengers trains will be restored in phased manner,'' he added.
