23.59 acres Salem Corporation lands handed over to TNUHDB

Salem Corporation handed over 23.59 acres of land to Tamilnadu Urban Habitat Development Board on Monday in the presence of K.N Nehru, Minister for Municipal Administration and Salem Collector S.Karmegam.

This brings to an end a thirty year old land issue between Salem Corporation and TNUHDB. 763 families lived in the land which are in Erumapalayam, Ponnamapet and Court Road. Land pattas could not be issued to these families they could not be given land titles. Rs 16, 13, 600 was the amount fixed to be paid to the Corporation for the lands in the above three places. The Corporation demanded the money and the land users could not enjoy any ownership benefits as the land transfer could not be effected.
TNUHDB has paid the above amount to the Salem Corporation now putting an end to the three decades old stalemate. This move facilitates the transfer of land title and ownership to the poor residents in the above three places.

The formal agreement document was handed over by minister K.N Nehru to Salem Collector S.Karmegam on Monday.

Salem Mayor A.Ramachandran, Deputy Mayor Sarada Devi, Salem North Constituency MLA R.Rajenderan, Corporation Commissioner T.Christuraj and other officials  were present.
