The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raid in the premises of former AIADMK minister Vaithilingam. It is held today based on the complaint of his involvement in illegal money transactions.
It is held at his house in Thanjavur-Orthanadu area, his room in the MLA Hostel in Chennai and his son's house.
The DVAC police registered a case against Vaithilingam for taking a bribe of Rs 27.90 crore for granting permission to build flats.
In this case, the ED is currently conducting an investigation.
From 2011 to 2016, he served as the Housing and Urban Development Minister in the AIADMK regime led by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. In 2016, when a private company sought planning permission to build flats in Chennai's Perungalathur, a bribe of Rs 27.90 crore was said to be paid to Vaithilingam, who was then a minister.
The complaint was lodged by Arapor Iyakkam.
It is alleged that the account shows that the bribe money was given as a loan to the company in which Vaithilingam's sons Prabhu and Sanmuga Prabhu were directors.
It was also reported that they had bought properties in many places with that money.
Based on this complaint, the DVAC police conducted an investigation and registered a case under 5 sections against 11 persons including former minister Vaithilingam, his sons Prabhu, Sanmuga Prabu, Panneerselvam and Ramesh from private companies.
He is a supporter of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and was selected as an MLA in the last assembly election from Orathanadu constituency.
