In Erode Lok Sabha constituency, 2,866 persons above 85-years of age and differently-abled persons who expressed their desire to vote by post have registered their postal vote.
It was announced that people above 85 years of age and differently abled persons who cannot come directly to the polling booths in the Lok Sabha polls can register their vote by post. Form 12-D was distributed for this purpose.
In this, 2,201 people above 85 years of age and 800 differently-abled persons in the 6 assembly constituencies of Erode Lok Sabha Constituency namely Kumarapalayam, Erode East, Erode West, Modakurichi, Kangayam and Darapuram (R) have expressed their desire to vote by postal ballot.
Postal vote registration for these started on April 4th and ended on 6th.
The 64 groups set up to collect postal votes directly went to the homes of the differently-abled persons and collected the postal votes following the polling rules. A total of 2,843 votes were cast by postal vote.
Vote collection was held on Monday as a final chance for those who opted for postal voting and missed it. A total of 23 votes were cast.
Through this, 2,866 people have cast their vote by postal vote so far. Of those who expressed interest, 135 did not vote.
95.5 percent of the 3,001 people who applied for postal voting in Erode Lok Sabha constituency fulfilled their democratic duty from their homes.
The sealed ballot boxes in which the postal votes were collected were kept safe in a room on the first floor of the Erode District Collectorate.
This room was 'sealed' on Monday night in the presence of political parties.
Rajagopal Sunkara, District Election Officer and Collector inspected these works.
Also, the room where the postal ballot boxes are kept is guarded by armed police and monitored 24 hours.
