30% of lorry transport affected due to fuel price hike

30% of lorry transport affected due to fuel price hike

As diesel prices are rising day by day, the movement of lorries to the northern states has been halted by 30 percent to avoid rent losses, said All India Motor Transport Congress executive committee member Chennakesavan.

He further said that there are about 4.60 lakh lorries in Tamil Nadu. Of this, 1.50 lakh lorries are going to outstations and getting ‘National Permits’. While the lorries industry has been suffering for the last 2 years due to the spread of the corona epidemic, the current diesel price hike is having a major impact on the lorries industry.

As diesel prices are rising day by day, there is a crisis of having to buy more rent the next day than the rent fixed yesterday. Thus, the relationship with the customer is affected. Rental collection for locally operated trucks is not a big problem, he adds.

But it takes at least 10 days for lorries to reach the northern states. So, within 10 days the cost of diesel increases to a few thousand rupees, causing loss to the truck owners. As a result, 30 percent of lorries from Tamil Nadu to the northern states have been stopped for the past 15 days. Meanwhile, truck owners have been hit hard by rising tariffs. Thus he said.
