Chief election officer Sathya Pratha Sahoo said that about 37.81 lakh voter identity cards are linked with their Aadhaar number in the state. The work to link voter id with Aadhaar number commenced earlier this month in the state and is likely to be completed by March 31, 2023.
The commission has deployed officials to collect Aadhaar card numbers at door steps. The public could also link the identity cards through voter helpline mobile application. Sahoo said, “So far, 37,81,498 people have linked their voter id with aadhaar number and it is about 6.08% of the total voter population of the state. While 90% of them had linked it with the help of election officials, the remaining people had done it through the online application.”
The highest number of people who linked the identity cards are from Ariyalur, Perambalur and Virudhunagar districts, he said and added that they have been creating awareness among the public about the importance of linking the identity cards. “The election commission would conduct special camps in November to add, delete or make corrections in the voter list. Application forms to get the Aadhaar number would also be given at the camp,” he added.
