In Erode district, 50 voters who are over 100 years of age, have been identified and called by the revenue department by giving betel leaves, betel nuts and fruits to come to vote on June 19. To ensure 100 per cent voter turnout in the Lok Sabha elections, they go door-to-door in identifying areas where low turnout was seen in previous elections.
Apart from this, efforts have been made to get postal ballots and complete registration from persons with disabilities and those over 85 years of age. After getting the form for that, from today they are going to go to their homes to get their votes.
Meanwhile, the revenue department personally visits those who are over 100 years of age and presents them with betelnuts, betel leaves and fruits to invite them to 'come to vote'.
They insisted that voting should be done without fail. Six persons in Erode East, four in Erode West, six in Modakurichi, 17 in Perundurai, three in Bhavani, six in Gopi and eight in Bhavanisagar were identified above 100 years of age in the district. They were invited by officials to vote without fail.
