Welfare assistance totaling Rs. 2.91 crore was distributed to 539 beneficiaries from tribal communities in Karumandurai during an event held at the Regulated Market Complex on November 23, 2024. Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister R. Rajendran led the initiative, highlighting the government’s commitment to uplifting marginalized communities.
Key aid included 300 milch cows worth ₹1.05 crore, loans of ₹1.4 crore to 123 farmers, and ₹34 lakh for 66 women’s self-help group members through cooperative societies. Additional support involved electric connection clearance certificates, land ownership transfer orders, and financial aid for farming equipment and tools across various departments.
The Minister emphasized the Chief Minister’s focus on tribal welfare through education, economic empowerment, and improved infrastructure. He noted that ₹1.38 crore was allocated for building facilities in government tribal residential schools in Karumandurai, and ₹1.93 crore is being used to construct houses for tribal families. Addressing the gathering, the Minister reiterated the state’s commitment to tribal development under the Dravidian model of governance, mentioning ongoing projects such as road improvements and water storage facilities in tribal areas.
The event was attended by Salem District Collector Dr. R. Brindha Devi, MP T. Malayarasan, former MLA S.R. Sivalingam, and other officials and community representatives.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, pledging to use the assistance for bettering their lives.
