7,140 postal ballots kept at Erode Collector's office

Erode Collector Rajagopal Sunkara inspected the strong room at the Collectorate where 7140 postal ballots were kept. 

In Erode district, people above 85 years of age, differently-abled persons, army personnel, teachers, government employees and policemen, posted for election duty, have been told to vote by post. According to this, postal votes were collected by visiting the houses of persons above 85 years of age and persons with disabilities. Similarly, postal ballots were given at the centers where training camps for election staff was held. The staff were told to cast postal ballots there or at the collector's office. All registered postal votes are kept under lock and seal in a safe room in Erode Collector's office. Officials said that altogether 7,140 postal votes have been registered including 6 postal votes from Virudhunagar district and 8 postal votes of army personnel, 4268 votes of government staff, collected during training classes, and 2866 votes cast by government staff and teachers in the Collectorate. They were kept in the strong room at the Collectorate.
