A private bus with about 70 passengers left from Salem New Bus Station to Yercaud on friday narrowly escaped a major accident on the ghat road by the driver's presence of mind. When the bus came near the twelfth hair pin bend, the front right tire burst and the passengers in the bus screamed in fear. The driver deftly brought the vehicle under control and prevented it from hitting against the parapet wall of the ghat road and thereby overturning or sliding into a deep valley below.
Reacting to the incident the public said such incidents are happening due to improper maintenance of the bus and high speed of the bus. The local transport officer of Yercaud should inspect the buses in Yercaud and take appropriate action against the buses running at high speed and monitor whether the buses are running on time.
