The city police in association with Siruthuli organized a saplings plantation drive with an aim to increase green cover at PRS ground in the city. The event was inaugurated by city police commissioner V Balakrishnan and about 750 saplings were planted at the ground in the Miyawaki style.
Addressing the media, Balakrishnan said, “It has become necessary to increase the green cover to tackle climatic changes. We have realized the importance of oxygen during the covid-19 pandemic situation. By increasing the green cover, we can increase the oxygen level. So, everyone should put efforts to plant trees and increase green cover.”
He said, in addition to the existing 1,500 trees, over 750 varieties of saplings were planted at the ground and Siruthuli would help them to grow and maintain them.
“As per the directions of the Chief Minister, police stations at Vadavalli and Thudiyalur will be attached to the city police limit. Additional personnel will be deployed in both law and order, and traffic wings of the stations,” he said, adding that about 500 vehicles were fined for violating traffic norms and steps were taken to install sensors to check speed limit.
Representatives from Siruthuli Vanitha Mohan and Sujini Balu, assistant commissioner of home guard A Sekar, motor vehicle inspector Govindaraj, home guard inspector Pratap Singh, forest ranger Jayanchandran and other officials were present at the event.
