77th Foundation Day of BIS held in KASC

The 77th Foundation Day celebrations of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) was held in Kongunadu Arts and Science College (KASC) on Jan 9 and 10. 

Mr. Mohan Senthil Kumar, President, Scientific and Industrial Testing and Research Centre (SI’Tarc), Coimbatore was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included, Mr. V. Gopinath, Scientist ‘G’/Head, BIS, Coimbatore branch office, Dr. C.A. Vasuki, Secretary and Director, KASC and Dr. M. Lekeshmanaswamy, Principal, KASC. 

In her Presidential Address, Dr. Vasuki, called upon the students that wherever they are they should place quality as number one. Citing the example of how India provided vaccines to the entire world during COVID-19, she said we have proven our abilities during the pandemic. This has increased the expectations from our country globally. 

During his inaugural address, Mr Gopinath cited the example of the Konkan Railway and said that it was one of the biggest quality work in India. He said that it was a challenge to construct the railway line. He said that the railway line was to go through one of the most loose rock areas, especially the Maharashtra stretch. He mentioned that it is a Civil Engineering marvel. 

In his special address, Mr Mohan Senthil Kumar stated that the implementation of standards in the industry became highly important in the 19th century, especially after the First World War.  That was the time when all industries began to have their standards.  India too followed suit and adopted the standards gradually.
