District Collector H.Krishnanunni informed that organic certificates have been given to 855 farmers. He inspected the organically grown turmeric crop in Kagam area of Kumaravalasu Panchayat, Modakurichi Panchayat Union, Erode District on Tuesday.
Regarding this study, he said: During the past 3 years,12 groups have been set up in an area of 839 hectares by the horticulture department. Under the programme 855 farmers have got the organic certificate. Organic farm products produced by farmers are being sold in the markets.
Inspected paddy IR20 seed
An incentive of Rs 1.17 crore has so far been provided to these farmers by the Department of Horticulture to promote organic agriculture. Farmers should produce their produce organically, he advised.
Later, he inspected paddy IR20 seed farm set up in an area of about 3 acres in Ayyakoundanpalayam, Poonthura Seymour Panchayat, Modakurichi Panchayat Union. After that, he inspected Modakurichi Government Primary Health Centre, Modakurichi Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Society, Fair Price Shop, Adi Dravidar Welfare Student Hostel, Olapalayam Anganwadi Centre, Veterinary Hospital etc.
