A blow for India's pride on global stage!

A blow for India's pride on global stage!

Brij Bhushan Charan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India,  a BJP MP of Uttar Pradesh  was accused of sexually harassing eight female wrestlers (including a minor girl) International medal winners Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia protested last January demanding action against her. After almost three days, a committee headed by 'Marycom' was formed to investigate this sexual allegation.
The committee's inquiry was completed and the report submitted, but it was not published. Insisting that there was no progress on the complaint, the wrestling champions resumed their protest in the capital Delhi from April 23. But the central government did not budge.
It was in this situation that the new Parliament building was inaugurated on May 28. The players tried to rally to block it. Then the police stopped their rally and forcibly arrested them. The players were pushed down and the way they were treated came under heavy criticism. Finally, to resolve this issue, the athletes who announced that they will throw the medals they won in the international competitions into the Ganges, went towards the Ganges on May in Haridwar. The tears they shed there shook the whole of India as they threw the medals they had earned fighting for the country into the river.
Against this background, the World Wrestling Federation has issued a statement regarding this issue. ``The manner in which Indian wrestlers are being treated, who insist on taking action on sexual complaints, is condemnable. Disappointing lack of action on complaints. The Dissolved Board of Directors in the Wrestling Federation of India should hold elections expeditiously. If not, the Wrestling Federation of India will be suspended from its membership, the World Wrestling Federation has warned.
The opposition parties are making allegations that ``the way the central BJP government is handling such a sexual complaint has reduced India's prestige globally.'' But the BJP government is not taking any action against Brij Bhushan Charan Singh. 38 criminal cases have been registered against Brij Bhushan Charan Singh under charges like theft, rioting, murder, intimidation, attempted murder, human trafficking etc.
``Why does the BJP government want to save someone with such a criminal record?'' That is the question raised by the opposition parties. Will the Prime Minister Modi-led central government take action before this question mark becomes more visible and covers the world map? Action is imperative, even urgent!
