AIADMK opposes change of name of Kalaiarangam

AIADMK councillors of Pallipalayam municipality, led by town secretary and former municipal chairman PS Velliangiri submitted a petition to the municipal commissioner opposing the civic body's resolution to change the name of 'Puratchithalaivar Kalaiarangam' located in the municipal community hall premises at Sanichandai in Pallipalayam as 'Kalaignar Thidal'. The name was existed for 35  years. The Kumarapalayam MLA and former minister P. Thangamani offered his MLA fund of Rs 10 lakh in 2015 to further expand the Kalaiarangam and the municipality was collecting fee from the users of the arangam. But, the DMK led council of the civic body  passed a resolution on May 29 to change the name of the arangam as Kalaignar Thidal. The AIADMK councillors staged a walk out from the council meeting. The resolution should be withdrawn to remove the confusion among the public on the issue. Besides, as per the norms, the local MLA Thangamani and Collector's name should be inscribed in the plaques of development works in the civic body as done by the elected council led by AIADMK in the past. Now, the civic body ignored to inscribe their names in the plaque.
