Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu emphasized the need for ensuring coordination between government departments while working together during the northeast monsoon.The Chief Secretary chaired a meeting with top officials of various government departments and senior officers of the Armed Forces at the Secretariat in Chennai on Tuesday to review the precautionary measures taken to face the Northeast monsoon in the state.
While directing the Chennai police, Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) and India Meteorological Department (IMD) to ensure the dissemination of weather alerts to the public so as to avoid vehicular traffic.
He also directed the officials to ensure availability of required equipment for relief and rescue operations during the monsoon after directing them to visit and inspect the ongoing stormwater drain works in the district.
He also directed the highways, rural development and water resources departments to jointly desilt the waterways, strengthen the banks of waterways and to keep the community kitchens ready for emergency purposes.
The Chief Secretary directed the health department officials to ensure maintaining public health from epidemics and to create awareness among farmers to take good care of cattle during the monsoon.
