Amit Shah’s visit to Chennai and EPS’ visit to CBE

Amit Shah’s visit to Chennai and EPS’ visit to CBE

Only 10 months are left for the upcoming state assembly elections. The DMK-led alliance that was formed during the Parliamentary election, remains intact. Senior BJP leader and union home minister Amit Shah announced the alliance formation between AIADMK and BJP during one of his visits to Chennai.
Since then, BJP cadres had been constantly saying that a coalition government will be formed in the state. Amit Shah during his recent visit to Madurai, clearly stated that a coalition government will be formed in the state.
Meanwhile, BJP cadres released a video insulting Periyar and former Chief Minister Anna during the Murugan devotees’ conference that took place in Madurai, irking AIADMK cadres. Though former ministers RV Udhayakumar, and Rajendra Balaji were present on the conference stage, they did not object it. Their casualness stroked another major controversy. Though multiple explanations were given by party leaders including RV Udhayakumar, party’s general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami remained mum.
Now, while speaking about the state assembly elections in New Delhi, Amit Shah said that Chief Minister will be from the AIADMK party if NDA alliance wins the election. But he avoided mentioning EPS’ name directly. It in turn caused controversy. If it was accidental, Amit Shah could have clarified immediately. But nothing happened on ground.
Ever since the alliance was formed, BJP functionaries have been constantly poking the AIADMK. During his recent visit to Madurai, Amit Shah neither met EPS not other alliance party leaders. Now, Amit Shah is visiting Chennai again on July 7. He would hold discussions with party functionaries regarding the election. Shortly after his visit was confirmed, everyone expected that EPS would meet him. But on the very same day, EPS is scheduled to visit Coimbatore. It looks like a deliberate attempt to avoid meeting Amit Shah.
AIADMK cadres neither expressed their condemnation to the frequent usage of words ‘coalition government’ by BJP. Instead, they say that EPS will be the Chief Minister if they win the election. But why don’t they condemn it publicly?
It looks like the tension and confusion between the AIADMK and BJP have escalated. During the Parliamentary election, their alliance broke due to a clash with former state president of BJP K Annamalai. Will a similar situation arise now due to Amit Shah’s speeches? Even though such a thing is unlikely because the voice of opposition from AIADMK is subdued, isn’t there a possibility that the strength of their could diminish on the election field?
