Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham celebrates Gokulashtami in grand style at Coimbatore

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham celebrated Krishna Janmashtami with grand festivities from August 23rd to 27th, blending tradition with vibrant student participation.

The Gokulashtami celebrations began with a series of competitions in art, literature, theatre, performing arts, and sports, encouraging creativity and unity among students. A spiritually enriching satsang by Bhakti Vinoda Swami of ISKCON, centred on the theme “You are not the one you think you are,” offered deep insights from the Bhagavad Gita, resonating with the teachings of Lord Krishna.

The campus buzzed with activity over the four-day event, featuring devotional bhajans, cultural programs, and grand processions, all of which highlighted the university’s rich cultural heritage. Traditional food stalls added to the festive atmosphere, offering attendees an authentic culinary experience. The celebrations peaked on Gokulashtami day with special bhajans, a dramatic reenactment of Krishna’s birth, and a pooja led by Swami Tapasyamritananda Puri, who also distributed prasad to devotees.

The final day saw Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan, Dean of Engineering, announce the winners of the Gokulashtami competitions. The Mechanical Engineering Department emerged as the overall champion, winning both the Rolling and Overall Trophies. The Computer Science Engineering Department secured the runner-up position. In the minor department category, the School of Agriculture achieved a hat-trick, winning both trophies for the third consecutive year.

The event, meticulously organised by the Office of Student Affairs with support from the Ashram and senior administrators leaving the Amrita community with cherished memories.
