Anbukaragal Scheme Benefits 140 Children in Coimbatore

After Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the “Anbukaragal” scheme at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai, a special event was held today at PSG College of Technology, Peelamedu, Coimbatore. At the function, Coimbatore MP Dr. Ganapathy P. Rajkumar and District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, distributed identity cards and child protection handbooks to 140 children who lost their parents and are growing under the care of relatives. Each child will receive monthly assistance of Rs. 2,000 under the scheme.

The “Anbukaragal” scheme, part of the Tamil Nadu government’s “Thayumanavar” initiative, ensures uninterrupted education for orphaned children up to the age of 18. It also promises higher education and skill development training after school completion.

The event was attended by Corporation Mayor K. Ranganayaki Ramachandran, Commissioner Ma. Sivaguruprabhakaran, Deputy Mayor R. Vetriselvan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Suryamoorthy, Assistant Commissioner (East) Muthusamy, State Child Rights Commission Member Kavya Nagarajan, and District Child Welfare Officer Habsa, along with other officials.

As part of the implementation process, details of families in extreme poverty were collected through the Tamil Nadu E-Governance Agency. Using a specially developed mobile application, Illam Thedi Education Volunteers and Self-Help Group members identified and verified eligible children at the district level. A 10% re-verification was carried out by a “Super Check Officer” appointed by the District Collector before final approval.

In Coimbatore district, 140 children have been confirmed to benefit under the scheme, securing financial support and educational continuity.
