Anganwadi workers protest pressing various demands

Members of the Tamil Nadu Anganwadi workers and helpers association on Saturday staged a sit-in protest at the district education office in Town Hall in the city, pressing various demands.
Their demands include permanent employment, filling of vacant posts, and provision of summer vacation as promised.
Speaking to reporters, district treasurer of the association, Alamelumangai said, “While we were promised summer vacation last year, it has not yet been granted. Even employees, who have been working for more than 30 years, have not been made permanent or promoted.”
Pointing out that there are more 21,000 vacant posts in Anganwadi centres, she said that the government should take steps to fill them immediately.
“If our demands are not met, we will stage an indefinite protest. There are 1,656 Anganwadi workers and helpers in the district alone, and each and every one of us are struggling at our workplace,” she added.
