Apex court dismisses plea to freeze AIADMK’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol

Apex court dismisses plea to freeze AIADMK’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol

The Supreme Court dismissed the plea seeking the court to direct the Election Commission of India (ECI) to freeze the ‘two leaves’ symbol of AIADMK.

A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana dismissed the plea filed by PA Joseph, who claimed to be the founding president of the JJ Party. He challenged the Madras High Court dismissing his plea and imposing a penalty of Rs 25,000.

The petitioner had sought to freeze the 'two leaves' symbol until the disputes between the party leaders Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Paneerselvam were solved, to protect public order and peace in the state.

While the  petitioner, during the hearing, said that his plea was not just dismissed and a cost was also imposed, CJI Ramana said, "How much cost should we impose now? Should we impose another Rs 25,000. You have no work. Dismissed."
