A resolution was introduced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly yesterday by the AIADMK against Speaker Appavu. During the debate, Opposition Leader Edappadi Palaniswami accused the Speaker of acting in a one-sided manner. In response, Chief Minister MK Stalin also presented his arguments. A vote was then conducted, and the no-confidence motion was defeated. However, former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam's team participated in the vote and supported the AIADMK resolution.
When reporters questioned this move, Edappadi Palaniswami stated, "I think the Speaker did not give O Panneerselvam a proper opportunity. That is why he voted against him. There is no such thing as the ruling party or the opposition party in this." Meanwhile, O Panneerselvam’s explanation for supporting the AIADMK resolution has also drawn attention. He said, "As an AIADMK member, I voted so that the whipping order would not be violated."
During the last budget session, after AIADMK members staged a walkout, O Panneerselvam and his supporters also boycotted the budget speech and left the Assembly. Following this, they supported the AIADMK’s resolution to remove Speaker Appavu, which was moved yesterday. Additionally, as the budget debate began, O Panneerselvam spoke in support of Edappadi Palaniswami, particularly on the DMK government’s borrowing, raising concerns as a former Finance Minister.
It is evident that O Panneerselvam, who has repeatedly emphasized the importance of AIADMK unity, is making efforts to align himself with Edappadi Palaniswami. This has sparked speculation that the two factions of the AIADMK might reunite, bringing normalcy back to the party. However, the key question remains: Will Edappadi Palaniswami put aside differences and accept O Panneerselvam, who is extending a gesture of peace?
This universal question has now become a hot topic of debate among AIADMK members!
