Asia’s largest Lord Murugan statue to be erected in Maruthamalai temple

Asia’s largest Lord Murugan statue to be erected in Maruthamalai temple

The Maruthamalai Murugan Temple in Coimbatore is set to host Asia’s tallest statue of Lord Murugan, standing at an impressive 160 feet. Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Shekar Babu, announced this during his inspection of the temple's ongoing development projects.
The Minister highlighted that the Tamil Nadu government has intensified its focus on the development of Murugan temples, with major renovations underway at prominent sites such as Palani, Thiruchendur, Thirutani, and Maruthamalai.
He noted that 90 Murugan temples have undergone consecration ceremonies under the DMK administration.
At the Maruthamalai Temple, several new facilities are being introduced to accommodate the growing number of devotees. These include a hair donation hall, an alms room, and a lift facility, which is expected to be operational by May.
The 160-foot stone statue, envisioned as the tallest Lord Murugan statue in Asia, is currently under feasibility studies. This iconic structure will further enhance the temple's prominence as a spiritual landmark.
Other improvements include appointing trustees for the Velliangiri temple and ongoing construction projects worth Rs. 21 crore. Additionally, the government plans to provide Annadhanam (free meals) during the upcoming Thai Poosam festival, with a decision on related restrictions expected soon.
