Avinashilingam institute organizes appreciation ceremony for Pudhumai Penn Scheme

Avinashilingam institute for home science and higher education for women and Sri Avinashilingam education trust institutions honours electricity minister V Senthil Balaji during an event organized to appreciate the state government’s Pudhumai Penn scheme on Monday.

Under the scheme, the state government provides financial assistance worth Rs 1000 per month to girl students studying in government schools. It is to enhance the enrolment ratio of girls in higher education institutions. As many as 452 girls from the institution availed the scholarship.

Financially independent

The ceremony was presided over by the managing trustee of the institution TSK Meenakshisundaram, chancellor SP Thyagarajan, vice chancellor Bharathi Harishankar, registrar S Kowsalya, assistant managing trustee Gowri  Ramakrishnan and dean of School of home science Vasuki Raja. Bharathi Harishankar delivered the welcome address, while Meenakshisundaram delivered the presidential address. The chancellor felicitated the chief guest.

Kowsalya educated the crowd about the nature and goals of the plan. Student beneficiaries thanked the Chief Minister MK Stalin and minister Senthil Balaji in enabling  female students whose families  cannot afford the cost of higher education to become financially independent.

The minister said, “A nation’s development is reflected in the growth and development of its women population. He congratulated the university management for carrying on the legacy of Ayya and highlighted that  similar visions were embodied by the former chief minister M Karunanidhi whose footsteps are now followed by Chief Minister and sports minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.” Vasuki Raja delivered the vote of thanks.
