Awareness program on Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP)

As part of the observance of National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention Month, the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, the School of Allied Healthcare Sciences, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, organized a Public Education Program (PEP) on Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP).
At the commencement of the programme, a special address was delivered by Dr. К. Narendiran, Director, Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
The programme comprised of four technical sessions. Dr. C. N. Ramasamy, Senior Plastic Surgeon, provided an overview of the surgical management of cleft lip and palate. Prof. N. D. Rajan, Advisor to the Department Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, spoke on the pivotal role of Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Swallowing Therapists in the long-term care of individuals with cleft-related issues. Mrs. Niranjana Shalini, Assistant Professor, Department of Physician Assistant, delivered a session on nutrition in cleft care.
Mrs. V. Devi Vijayalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, presented a session on the developmental support systems available for children with cleft lip and palate.
