The Department of Commerce and the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, Coimbatore, in collaboration with India Post, organised an awareness program on the Sukanya Samriddhi Saving Scheme.
The event aimed to educate the public on the benefits of the scheme and distribute savings account passbooks to beneficiaries.
Presided over by K Sivakumar, Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Coimbatore Division, the program highlighted the importance of securing the future of girl children through savings.
The initiative was coordinated by Dr. R Velmurugan, Associate Professor & Head of the Department of Commerce, and Dr. A Dharmaraj, Director of the Extension Programme, with Dr. J Sudarvel and Mr. R Thamodiran serving as Organising Secretaries.
An amount of ₹12,500, sponsored by faculty members of the Department of Commerce, benefitted 50 girl children from three government primary schools located in Kamaraj Nagar, Eachanari, and Seerapalayam villages in Coimbatore District.
This community outreach program was attended by over 50 parents, teachers, postal officials, and NSS volunteers.
