With traffic congestion and violations on the rise in Bengaluru, motorists have paid a record Rs106 crore in fines during a special 50% discount scheme announced by the traffic police.
The discount window, open from August 23 to September 12, encouraged violators to clear pending dues online. According to police, fines were paid in connection with 37,86,173 traffic violation cases during the period.
On the final day alone, September 12, motorists rushed to settle their dues, resulting in a collection of Rs25 crore — the highest single-day figure.
Officials said the scheme not only boosted collections but also promoted voluntary compliance with traffic rules.
