Bid to attach Collector office properties

Court bailiffs took steps to attach computers in the Erode Collector's office on Friday. It is said that  5.45 acres of land was acquired in 1986 for construction of Housing Board flats at Kollampalayam. The eight land owners went to court after they were not paid the due amount. In 1999, the court ordered them to pay compensation of Rs 3 lakh per acre.

Thereafter, appeal cases were made in the High Court and the Supreme Court and the amount of compensation is confirmed. Even after this, the compensation amount of 78. 23 lakh  was not given to the land owners, so they filed an execution petition in the Erode court.

The First Additional Sub Court, which heard this plea, ordered confiscation of 50 computers, 50 typewriter machines, 50 bureaus, 100 electric fans, 500 chairs, 400 desks, 3 lifts, etc. in Erode District Collector's office. Court staff with a copy of this order went to collector office with lawyers and petitioners.  They held talks with the PA General to the Collector who assured to do the needful. Then, they went away. This incident created much flutter in the office.
