The election for selecting Bishop of CSI Erode- Salem Diocese, the newly created one after bifurcating the Coimbatore diocese, will be held on April 11, said CSI Moderator's Commissary Rt Rev Dr D Chandrasekaran.
Talking to newsmen in the Erode CSI Women Arts College, Erode, he said that the election committee has honorary secretary Rev A Jacob Livingston, treasurer A Nelson Cornelius and vice president D Ezhil Robert Kevin will invite nominations from 166 voters (heads of churches) in the diocese covering Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts. Five members will be elected and one among them will be elected as Bishop. The new diocese is 25th kind under CSI. Though some persons went to court opposing bifurcation of Coimbatore diocese, there is no stay on the election. The complaints regarding renting out the CSI complex in Erode would be dealt by CSI Synod, Chennai, he added.
He thanked the CM for assuring to fulfill various long pending demands of the minorities organizations including extension of morning breakfast scheme to the minorities run schools, filling up of teachers posts, giving permission for new kabarthasthan, cemetery and worshipping places etc.
