BJP lodges complaint to TN Child Protection Commission

BJP functionaries submitted a petition to the TN child protection commission chairperson Saraswathi Rangasamy at the Collectorate seeking a probe on a hospital at Erode as the test tube baby centre of the hospital website revealed that it has done over 50000 IVF (invitro fertilisation) to help parents get children and the hospital also involved in extracting ovum from a minor girl of Erode.

The party district general secretaries SM Senthil and Sivakami represented to her while she held a probe with top health and police officers at the Collectorate regarding extraction of ovum for over 8 times from a minor girl of Erode district by the hospitals at Erode, Salem,  Perundurai, Thirupathy and Thiruvandapuram which bought the ovums by giving money. In this connection, police already held her mother, mother's second husband, a broker Malathi and one John who created fake Aadhar Card for her.

The BJP functionaries sought a white paper on the issue and a thorough probe to find the violations of IVF centres in the state besides due protection to the girl who attempted suicide a new days back.

They said that the government data revealed that abortions were conducted to over 630 minor girls in various hospitals in the district last year.

The reasons for it should also be probed. They said that though they represented to the Collector about the violations of some hospitals on the ovum extraction issue nearly 40 days back, none responded so far.

Today also, the commission discussed with officials only for over 2 hours and the doctors of the hospitals concerned attended the inquiry for just few minutes before the commission wound up its probe. So, there was a suspicion whether an effort was made up to hush up the issue.

The commission chairperson and members did not respond to their petitions regarding commercialisation of IVF and steps to check malpractices in the hospitals and to the queries of pressmen while leaving Collectorate, they rued.
