BJP opposes LBP concretisation project

BJP opposes LBP concretisation project

BJP farmers wing state president G.K.Nagaraj sent a letter to the Chief Minister urging him to drop the Lower Bavani Project canal concretisation project.
He said the irrigation canal project covers 2.07 lakh acres and many drinking water projects in Erode, Tirupur and Karur districts.
In this case,  the water seepages of right bank is the livelihood of lakhs of farmers to irrigate their lands.
When the previous AIADMK government started the canal conversation work, DMK joined the farmers' protest and stopped the work inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
The CM, in the poll campaign meeting held in Darapuram, said that ''if we come to power, we will lay concrete according to the opinion of the farmers.''
But, now, the DMK rule are rushing to fulfill the thousands of crore concretisation project. BJP opposes the project as it would hit drinking water projects in over 300 revenue villages, irrigation facility of thousands of acres which get water through seepages. Bhavanisagar is the second largest earthen dam in Asia. Its earthen canal is also strong. So, its seepage fills the lakes, ponds and streams.
But, without proper maintenance for the last 67 years, liquor bottles, cloths, dead trees and rubbish in IT obstruct the flow of water.
So, they should be removed immediately and water management workers known as luskers be appointed. According to the Supreme Court order old structures like sluices, bridges, culverts, etc should be reconstructed and renovated on war time basis with removal of trees which could block water flow in the river.
Around 30000 acre should be removed from the ayacut as they become colleges, industries, houses etc.
Government officials should be appointed to democratically select the Ayakattu Irrigation Agriculture Association Presidents.
After the completion of the above works, a team of competent water management experts should be formed and appointed and then the embankment should be reinforced with concrete at the site.  It is the duty of the government to provide water to every farmer who works to feed the world.
So, Pandiaru-Punnambuza and Anaimalai-Nallaru projects, which has been lying dormant for many years should be carried out on a war-time basis for the welfare of the Kongu region farmers.
The CM should pay special attention to complete the projects and help ryots of tail end areas of LBP and PAP to get water smoothly, he pleaded.
