Chief Minister should intervene and resolve the hunger strike of Kilbhavani farmers in Erode, which entered 6th day on Tuesday, pleaded BJP farmers wing state president G.K.Nagaraj.
He along with Modakurichi MLA Dr CK Saraswathi met the agitating ryots near Perundurai and expressed his support to them. He said farmers who had been holding various protests due to disagreements regarding the laying of concrete in the Kilbhavani Canal.
In view of the High Court's order, Housing Minister S Muthusami said only old constructions in the canal will be renovated. While the farmers opposing and supporting the scheme accepted it, new works were started in some parts of the canal as per the order of the Minister of Water Resources, Durai Murugan, which has created a lot of turmoil among the farmers.
So, 29 farmers have started an indefinite hunger strike in Erode Vaikkalmedu area. More than 500 farmers have joined the protest stir.
When the CM was the Leader of the Opposition, he opposed concretisation project on the canal.
He assured after coming to power, we will put concrete after listening to the opinion of the farmers.
But, now, without listening to the opinion of the farmers and without properly examining the opinion of Erode Minister Muthusami, new construction works were going on in the canal as per the advice of the Water Resources Minister Mr. Durai Murugan to spend the allocated fund of Rs. 710 crores.
So, the ryots started hunger strike. The Chief Minister should intervene and solve this problem immediately, he pleaded.
