Bharatiya Janata Party south district president Senthilkumar and General Secretary Sivagami Maheswaran submitted a petition at the Collectorate on Thursday seeking due protection to the minor girl, from whom ovum was collected in various hospitals many times, following the girl attempted suicide on Wednesday.
In their petition, they said four persons, namely the girl's mother, foster father, female broker and the person who prepared a fake Aadhaar card for her, have been arrested and are in jail in connection with the illegal extraction of ovum from a 16-year-old girl in Erode.
This incident created a great shock across Tamil Nadu. So, action should be taken on the hospital and doctors involved in this incident under the Goondas Act. In this case, we are shocked to hear the news that the victim, who was kept in a government home, attempted suicide and is undergoing treatment at Erode Government Hospital. Therefore, appropriate measures should be taken to help the victim and rehabilitate her.
Precautionary steps should be taken so that such incidents do not happen elsewhere.
The police should carry out a detailed investigation regarding this forcible ovum donation and take action against those who involved in the incident. A white
paper should be published in this regard by the government. Also new regulations should be enacted for the ovum donation process.
Hospitals across Tamil Nadu should follow the existing legal norms in collecting ovum. Party functionaries Sivasubramaniam, SM Senthil, Iswaramurthy, Vedanandam, Advocate Eswaramurthy, Chinnathurai, Gunasekaran, Ayyasamy, Karthik, Balamurali, Sakthi Subramani, Indira Kumar, Annadurai, Saravanan and Ravindran were present.
