In the wake of violent clash between Meithei and Kuki communities in Manipur the Meithei community has launched a barrage of attacks on the people of the Kuki tribe. More than 170 people have died in this violence.
There is a lot of tension in the North Eastern states as there is a fear that the violence in Manipur will spread to the neighbouring states. In the state of Mizoram, which is close to the state of Manipur, there have been reports that more than a thousand people of Meithei community have left so far.
Also, an organization called PAMRA had issued a warning to Mizoram residents to leave Mizoram or face any violence against them. Due to this there has been a stir in Mizoram state as well.
Assembly elections have been announced in Mizoram state. While the Mizo National Front is in power there, it is part of the BJP alliance at the national level. In this situation, Chief Minister Zoramthanga has announced that he will not share the stage with Prime Minister Modi who is coming to Mizoram for campaigning.
"All the people of Mizoram state are Christians. The people here are well aware of the burning of churches in Manipur. In such an environment, sympathizing with the BJP can be a setback for our party. So it will be right for Prime Minister Modi and myself to campaign separately. I will not share the platform with him," he said.
Chief Minister Zoramthanga has taken this decision because he is afraid that he will not get votes if he campaigns with the Prime Minister. He announced it publicly.
This has created a crisis for Prime Minister Modi. The BJP leadership is in shock. Opposition parties are criticizing Prime Minister Modi with what face he will participate in the campaign in Mizoram when the alliance chief minister himself has said that he will not participate in the campaign with him. Is this the alliance? They also make fun of it.
So will PM Modi go for election campaign in Mizoram? He will definitely go. He cannot ignore a state as a whole. But this is seen as a setback for Prime Minister Modi and the BJP in the Indian political arena. Efforts are underway to find a solution to this.
Will Chief Minister Zoramthanga come forward to share the campaign platform with PM Modi? Let's wait and see!
