Buses with loud air horns penalized at Coimbatore

Regional Transport Officials have slapped penalty against private and government buses that are installed with loud air horns in the city on Thursday. The action was taken based on frequent complaints.
According to sources, RTO officials have been receiving constant complaints that both government and private buses at Gandhipuram city and central bus stand have installed loud air horns, and it has been posing a threat to the public.
Based on the complaint, the officials jointly with officials from the pollution control board conducted a surprise inspection at Gandhipuram in the city.  During which, they checked the vehicles and slapped penalties against those vehicles whose horn sound was more than 90 decibels. They made the bus drivers remove the horns on spot.
Penalties between Rs 3,000 and Rs 10,000 were slapped against each bus, and the drivers were warned of severe action upon violating the rules.
